Local information platform

hessenweb.de is a regional information portal which offers the residents of Hessen (the German state surrounding Frankfurt) information on local companies and their services as well as cultural activities. Relaunch of the website with a focus on creating an online brand and building an active community around the site by offering interactive features.

Our task

The rather static website should become the information portal within Hessen regarding local news, cultural activities and regional advertisements. Logically structured content should guide the different target groups easily throughout the site. The establishment of a friendly and open design should increase trust and loyalty.

Our solution

The challenge was to structure the abundance of information in a logical and clear way. To reduce the amount of information each user is presented with and to strengthen the local character of the website, the user can choose his region and will then be presented with news and events relevant to him. Individualised header images strengthen the regional flair. Regarding the layout, we chose a design which visualises the different information categories well. This gives the site the feeling of a diverse information and news portal. The online corporate design was built based on the logo only. Within the site we provide many calls to action such as mailing in regional photographs, participating in the many forums, or advertising in the online marketplace.

The technical integration is based on the open source content management system Typo3 so that hessenweb is able to maintain the website with their internal staff.

The result

The optimisation of the usability and the definition of an online brand were pivotal in this project as well as the integration of Web 2.0 features. Page impressions went up by a phenomenal 485% and visits by 752% within a year which boosted their advertising revenue.
